Oral Health

underline1

The mouth serves as a gateway to the body, and poor oral health can lead to or exacerbate various health conditions:

Cardiovascular Health: Gum disease has been linked to heart disease and stroke. Chronic inflammation from oral infections can contribute to the development of atherosclerosis, increasing the risk of cardiovascular events.
Diabetes Management: Individuals with diabetes are more susceptible to gum disease, and the inflammation from periodontal disease can make it harder to control blood sugar levels.
Cognitive Function: Emerging research suggests that poor oral health may be associated with cognitive decline and conditions like Alzheimer's disease, possibly due to chronic inflammation affecting the brain.
Respiratory Health: Oral infections can increase the risk of respiratory diseases, as bacteria from the mouth can be inhaled into the lungs, leading to conditions like pneumonia.

Substance abuse, particularly the use of drugs like methamphetamine and tobacco, significantly impacts oral health. Conditions such as “meth mouth”—characterized by severe dental decay, gum disease, and tooth loss—are prevalent among drug users. Additionally, tobacco use is a leading cause of oral cancers and other serious oral health issues.
